From week to week the therapist gives me knew techniques and suggestions to help Mason, and through the week we do these daily. At this point he still needs his hands for support. Last week I was telling the therapist Mason no longer has interest in sitting he will throw himself back. As she was watching him get on his hands and knees, rolling around, she informed me it was because he wants to be mobile and learned he cant go anywhere by sitting. His therapist taught me how to go from a sitting position to getting on his tummy by rotating his upper body to the side. She said he would be crawling within a few weeks.
Doing his second therapy of the day before his therapist came, I put a toy in his lap and he would sit there playing with it. Then working with him to get to his tummy He noticed a toy in front of him out of reach so he got on his hands and knees a took a leap towards the toy. He did it again looking like a worm going across his bedroom. Of course I continued to move the toy and cheer him on.
I shouted for Dylan and said Mason needed to show him something. I told him to sit by the door with a rattle, and start shaking it. He watched Mason get excited and start doing the "worm" towards the toy and towards his big brother. Dylan was giggling and cheering Mason on. Once Mason got to Dylan, Dylan wrapped his arms around Mason and said "Good Job buddy, I'm sooo proud of you"
Just then the therapist came to the door Dylan said "We have a surprise for you." She got down on the floor with us and watched Mason do the "worm" across the floor She was sooo impressed and said "What did I tell you? He is ready." She asked me how long hes been doing this and I told her "ummm bout 20 minutes" she was excited to share this moment with us. Through out the therapy we continued to motivate him to move. By the end of the hour and half he was doing less worm and more of a bear crawl.
Of course this was done when Mike was at work and by the time he got home it was time to go to soccer. We got to the soccer field, I laid the blanket out, laid Mason on his tummy and put his bottle out of reach in front of him and told Mike to watch. There he went right in front of Mikes eyes got to his bottle and grabbed it. Talk about a proud daddy.
Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground...
